What is X% of Y?

Formula: X% × Y = Result

Example: 20% of 100 = 20

X is what % of Y?

Formula: (X ÷ Y) × 100 = Result%

Example: 20 is 20% of 100

Percentage Increase/Decrease

Formula: ((New Value - Original Value) ÷ Original Value) × 100 = Result%

Example: Going from 100 to 120 is a 20% increase

Percentage Difference

Formula: (|Value1 - Value2| ÷ ((Value1 + Value2) ÷ 2)) × 100 = Result%

Example: Difference between 100 and 120 is 18.18%

Important considerations:
  • When calculating percentages with division operations, you cannot use zero as the denominator.
  • For percentage increase/decrease calculations, the original value cannot be zero.
